{"id":2320,"date":"2011-10-10T11:34:48","date_gmt":"2011-10-10T18:34:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/?p=2320"},"modified":"2017-06-04T12:13:42","modified_gmt":"2017-06-04T19:13:42","slug":"avoiding-bubbles-the-california-dream-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/avoiding-bubbles-the-california-dream-act","title":{"rendered":"Avoiding Bubbles \u2014 The California Dream Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.californiadreamact.org\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.californiadreamact.org\/\">The California Dream Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The banking industry is likely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=L0462ycSKm0\" target=\"_blank\">California Dreaming<\/a> about the day when more states get their act together. \u2026For those of us who think that the US will see a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bubble_economy\" target=\"_blank\">bubble<\/a> in the education industry caused by its efforts to distribute human kind\u2019s knowledge communities outside of the affluent elite, they shouldn\u2019t hold their breath.<\/p>\n<p>The Cali Dream Act could seem like an altruistic attempt to empower our desperate relatives converging on US cities, but there are some fiscally desperate economics behind this proverbial triumph over \u201csocial evil\u201d, as if such a thing ever existed\u2026LOL<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/avoiding-bubbles-the-california-dream-act3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"314\" height=\"136\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For-profit and Not-for-profit education is big business\u2026consider the $4.9B income of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Apollo_Group\" target=\"_blank\">Apollo Group<\/a>, owner of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Phoenix\" target=\"_blank\">University of Phoenix<\/a> or the pride of the west coast\u2019s $16.5B endowment at<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stanford_University\" target=\"_blank\"> Stanford University<\/a>. All of these are affected by the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arbitrage\" target=\"_blank\">arbitrage<\/a> (my favorite word <span class=\"wp-smiley emoji emoji-smile\" title=\":-)\">smile<\/span> ) in an industry\u2026 losing applicants with the confidence that a degree or certificate is honestly <a href=\"http:\/\/moneyland.time.com\/2009\/06\/23\/is-college-a-bad-investment\/\" target=\"_blank\">their best investment<\/a>. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"151\" height=\"151\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One thing is for sure, the US is the largest knowledge community on the planet currently, and one thing it can still sell the world\u2019s consumers on, is that they\u2019ll want to tap into the experience in their quest to secure the ideal 20th century standard of success. To be redundant, the 20th century <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Dream\" target=\"_blank\">American Dream<\/a> is still the benchmark for making it in 2011 for the vast majority world around us\u2026even as those of us investing in the future would harshly disagree. Where better to catch a dream life than in California\u2026or even Michigan, with residents exiting at record paces.<\/p>\n<p>The reality is that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Irregular_immigration\" target=\"_blank\">undocumented immigrants<\/a> are a new class of Americans or non-Americans to sell long-term deferred and\/or short term deferred loans. Its an ideal way to build collateral on the balance sheet of a lending company ;-). I\u2019m not only expecting for more states to echo California\u2019s legislative desperation\/foresight (call it how you like), but I am expecting for the near future to offer American educations with State and possibly Federal assistance (at a taxable premium + interest) to undocumented immigrants of the US\u2026 and even foreign nationals with no immediate intent on coming to the US for legal or illegal residency. It\u2019ll be called <em>globalization<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The US education models designed by the non-profit traditional institutions and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/technologized\" target=\"_blank\">technologized<\/a> (new word for me\u2026lol) by the more agile for-profit institutions, will be distributed throughout the world at the rate of technologies acceptance in foreign countries.<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, where there is government support (large pot of $), private speculation (smaller pots of $) will follow its low risks. fueling the distribution of what we know and what we are exploring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The California Dream Act.
