The technology could usher in a new era of low-cost, low-energy quantum components able to communicate over <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/news\/2024-03-satellites-quantum-communications-encryption-physical.html?utm_source=embeddings&utm_medium=related&utm_campaign=internal\" rel=\"related\" target=\"_blank\">great distances<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe material in question is not really new, but the way we use it is,\u201d says Jennifer Dionne, a professor of materials science and engineering and senior author of the paper just published in <i>Nature Communications<\/i> describing the novel device. \u201cIt provides a very versatile, stable spin connection between electrons and photons that is the theoretical basis of quantum communication.
