The researchers were able to vary the electric field strength very precisely, causing the special \u2018topological\u2019 states in nanoribbons to disappear or appear.<\/p>\n<p>The research, titled \u201cElectric-Field Control of Zero-Dimensional Topological States in Ultranarrow Germanene Nanoribbons,\u201d is <a href=\"https:\/\/link.aps.org\/doi\/10.1103\/jx2x-fb5b\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in Physical Review Letters.<\/p>\n<p>Quantum computers will not use zeros and ones, but instead use <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/news\/2023-10-qa-quantum-economic-growth.html?utm_source=embeddings&utm_medium=related&utm_campaign=internal\" rel=\"related\" target=\"_blank\">quantum bits<\/a> that can assume both states simultaneously.
