Their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s42255-025-01390-y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">findings<\/a>, published in <i>Nature Metabolism,<\/i> demonstrated that blocking this site lowered brain inflammation and protected neurons, suggesting a novel therapeutic approach for neurodegenerative disorders, including frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really excited about the translational potential of this work,\u201d a co-lead of the research. \u201cWe can now target specific mechanisms and go after the exact sites that are relevant for disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The researchers focused on mitochondria\u2014metabolic structures inside cells that generate energy from food and, in the process, release molecules known as reactive oxygen species (ROS).
