For theorists there\u2019s still work to do.<\/p>\n<p>Colliding 300 billion muons over four years at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in the U.S., the <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2023-08-muon-g-result-world-precise.html?utm_source=embeddings&utm_medium=related&utm_campaign=internal\" rel=\"related\">Muon g-2 Collaboration <\/a>\u2014a group of over 200 researchers\u2014has measured the magnetic strength of the muon to unprecedented precision: accurate to 127 parts per billion.<\/p>\n<p>These final results on the muon\u2019s magnetic moment\u2014measured by its frequency of the moment\u2019s wobbling in an external magnetic field\u2014are the end of a chain of experimental efforts going back 30 years and have been <a href=\"https:\/\/link.aps.org\/doi\/10.1103\/7clf-sm2v\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in the journal Physical Review Letters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For experimental physicists, the latest measurement of the muon is the best of times.
