Most of the \u2018low-hanging fruit\u2019 has already been found, and the limited commercial incentives deter investment in antibiotic discovery.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1021\/jacs.5c12501\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\" class=\"\">new study published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society<\/a>, researchers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/warwick.ac.uk\/global\/monash-warwick-alliance\/research\/amr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\" class=\"\">Monash Warwick Alliance Combatting Emerging Superbug Threats Initiative<\/a> have discovered a promising new antibiotic \u2014 pre-methylenomycin C lactone.
