However, they are increasingly vulnerable to the effects of <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/climate+change\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">climate change<\/a>. Rising temperatures and changing <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/rainfall+patterns\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">rainfall patterns<\/a> cause big variations in <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/crop+yields\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">crop yields<\/a> from year to year, meaning that farmers cannot rely on the stability of their harvest, and their produce is at risk.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers specifically investigated Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) as a way of mitigating climate change in the top grape, coffee and cacao growing regions of western Europe, South America and West Africa.
