A research team from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has developed a refractory metal-based alloy with properties unparalleled to date.<\/p>\n<p>The novel combination of chromium, molybdenum, and silicon is ductile at <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/ambient+temperature\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">ambient temperature<\/a>. With its <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/melting+temperature\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">melting temperature<\/a> of about 2,000\u00b0C, it remains stable even at high temperatures and is at the same time oxidation resistant. These results are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-025-09516-8\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in Nature.<\/p>\n<p>High-temperature-resistant metallic materials are required for <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/aircraft+engines\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">aircraft engines<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/gas+turbines\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">gas turbines<\/a>, X-ray units, and many other technical applications.
