By analyzing its new model, the team came to surprising conclusions that could prove useful for robot design, artificial intelligence, and for better understanding of human memory. Published in <i>Scientific Reports<\/i>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1038\/s41598-025-11244-y\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a> suggests there may be an optimal number of senses\u2014if so, those of us with five senses could use a couple more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur conclusion is, of course, highly speculative in application to human senses, although you never know: It could be that humans of the future would evolve a sense of radiation or magnetic field. But in any case, our findings may be of practical importance for robotics and the theory of <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/artificial+intelligence\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">artificial intelligence<\/a>,\u201d said study co-author Professor Nikolay Brilliantov of Skoltech AI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt appears that when each <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/concept\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">concept<\/a> retained in memory is characterized in terms of seven features\u2014as opposed to, say, five or eight\u2014the <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/number\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">number<\/a> of distinct objects held in memory is maximized.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Skoltech scientists have devised a mathematical model of memory.
