The current medical playbook\u2014surgery followed by chemotherapy\u2014initially shows promise. Tumors shrink, sometimes disappearing entirely. But in more than 80% of patients, the cancer not only comes back, but returns more aggressive and increasingly resistant to the very treatments that once seemed effective.<\/p>\n<p>But now, there could be new hope. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/med\/fulltext\/S2666-6340(25)00231-4\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a> published in the journal <i>Med<\/i>, UCLA researchers have detailed their development of a new type of immune cell <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/therapy\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">therapy<\/a>, called CAR-NKT cell therapy, that could transform <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/ovarian+cancer\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">ovarian cancer<\/a> care by delivering superior cancer-fighting power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the culmination of over a decade of work in my lab and represents over six years of collaboration with gynecologic oncologist Dr. Sanaz Memarzadeh,\u201d said co-senior author Lili Yang, a professor of microbiology, immunology and <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/molecular+genetics\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">molecular genetics<\/a> and a member of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCLA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death among women with gynecological cancers.
