Such \u201chuman-machine collaboration\u201d \u2014 informally known as <a href=\"http:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2015\/11\/centaur-army-bob-work-robotics-the-third-offset-strategy\/\">the centaur model<\/a> \u2014 is the high-tech holy grail of the Defense Department\u2019s plan to <a href=\"http:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2016\/02\/russia-china-drive-2017-budget\/\">counter Russian and Chinese advances<\/a>, known as the <a href=\"http:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2016\/02\/high-tech-seed-corn-for-next-president-bob-work-on-2017-budget\/\">Third Offset Strategy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had some great conversations with the deputy,\u201d said DARPA director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.darpa.mil\/staff\/dr-arati-prabhakar\" target=\"_blank\">Arati Prabhakar<\/a>, referring to the <a href=\"http:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2016\/02\/its-not-about-technology-bob-work-on-the-3rd-offset-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\">chief architect of Offset, Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work<\/a>. \u201cIn many of our programs you\u2019ll see some of the technology components\u201d of the strategy.
