This method achieves field strengths approaching one megatesla\u2014a breakthrough in compact, high-field plasma science.<\/p>\n<p>Ultrastrong magnetic fields approaching the megatesla regime\u2014comparable to those found near strongly magnetized <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/neutron+stars\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">neutron stars<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/astrophysical+jets\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">astrophysical jets <\/a>\u2014have now been demonstrated in theory using a compact, laser-driven setup.<\/p>\n<p>A team led by Professor Masakatsu Murakami at The University of Osaka has proposed and simulated a unique scheme that uses micron-sized hollow cylinders with internal blades to achieve these field levels.
