Both methods rely on standard telecom components\u2014offering a realistic path to secure <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/data+transmission\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">data transmission<\/a> through existing fiber networks.<\/p>\n<p>From hospitals to government agencies and industrial facilities\u2014anywhere <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/sensitive+data\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">sensitive data<\/a> must be kept secure\u2014quantum communication could one day play a key role. Instead of transmitting electrical signals, this technology uses individual particles of light\u2014photons\u2014encoded in delicate quantum states.
