This state, called a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.home.cern\/science\/physics\/heavy-ions-and-quark-gluon-plasma\" target=\"_blank\">quark-gluon plasma<\/a>, existed for a brief time until the temperature dropped to about 20 trillion Kelvin, after which this \u201chadronization\u201d took place.<\/p>\n<p>Now a research group from Italy has presented new calculations of the plasma\u2019s equation of state that show how important the strong force was before the hadrons formed. Their work is <a href=\"https:\/\/link.aps.org\/doi\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.134.201904\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in Physical Review Letters.<\/p>\n<p>The equation of state of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) represents the collective behavior of particles that experience the strong force\u2014a gas of strongly interacting particles at equilibrium, with its numbers and net energy unchanging.
