The data must be packed in new ways, customized for quantum treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at the Department of Energy\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnnl.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pacific Northwest National Laboratory<\/a> have done just that, developing an algorithm specially designed to prepare data for a quantum system. The code, published recently on <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/smferdous1\/Picasso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GitHub<\/a> after being presented at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ieeexplore.ieee.org\/document\/10579092\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IEEE International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing<\/a>, cuts a key aspect of quantum prep work by 85 percent.<\/p>\n<p>While the team <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prresearch\/abstract\/10.1103\/PhysRevResearch.4.043172\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demonstrated the technique previously<\/a>, the latest research addresses a critical bottleneck related to scaling and shows that the approach is effective even on problems 50 times larger than possible with existing tools.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PRESS RELEASE \u2014 Quantum computers promise to speed calculations dramatically in some key areas such as computational chemistry and high-speed networking.
