The researchers have discovered that in obese patients and in mouse models, increased levels of the oxidative enzyme myeloperoxidase (MPO) are associated with poorer vascular function.<\/p>\n<p>The results of the research have been <a href=\"https:\/\/linkinghub.elsevier.com\/retrieve\/pii\/S2666379125001600\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> under the title \u201cMyeloperoxidase impacts vascular function by altering perivascular adipocytes\u2019 secretome and phenotype in <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/obesity\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">obesity<\/a>\u201d in Cell Reports Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>In people suffering from obesity, MPO is active in a particular form of fatty tissue surrounding the aorta. This fatty tissue is called perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT).
