The findings are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/scitranslmed.adt5553\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in the journal Science Translational Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Modern medicine continues to be hampered by the lack of effective treatments for <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/acute+kidney+injury\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">acute kidney injury<\/a> (AKI) and <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/chronic+kidney+disease\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">chronic kidney disease<\/a> (CKD). Regenerative medicine, such as cell replacement therapies, represents a new hope for patients. Yet, such therapeutic approaches require large-scale production of the necessary cells, which had remained a challenge until this discovery.<\/p>\n<p>Using a mouse model of AKI, the research team first demonstrated the therapeutic potential of human iPS cell-derived nephron progenitor cells (hiPSC-NPCs).
