Now, researchers at The University of Texas at Dallas have fused chemistry with technology to create a 3D-printed foam that is more durable and more recyclable than the polymer foam found in many everyday products.<\/p>\n<p>The research, <a href=\"https:\/\/xlink.rsc.org\/?DOI=D4LP00374H\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in <i>RSC Applied Polymers<\/i>, focused on creating a sturdy but lightweight <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/foam\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">foam<\/a> that could be 3D-printed, a method that is still largely unexplored in commercial manufacturing, said the study\u2019s co-lead author, UT Dallas doctoral student Rebecca Johnson BS\u201920.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is probably the longest project I\u2019ve ever done,\u201d said Johnson, who plans to complete her Ph.D. in chemistry in May. \u201cFrom start to finish, it was a little over two years.
