A team of U of A researchers combined the two approaches and created a new type of antimicrobial surface.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/synergistic+effect\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">synergistic effect<\/a>,\u201d said physicist Yong Wang, one of the lead researchers on the project. \u201cIt\u2019s not like 1+1=2.
