University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine scientists made the discovery when combing through local hospital data\u2014and then confirmed that it was a global phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>The finding, published in <a href=\"https:\/\/idp.nature.com\/authorize?response_type=cookie&client_id=grover&redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nature.com%2Farticles%2Fs41564-025-01958-0\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Nature Microbiology<\/i><\/a>, may be the impetus for new approaches in developing therapeutics against some of the world\u2019s deadliest <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/bacteria\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">bacteria<\/a>.
