They were developed by researchers at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU).<\/p>\n<p>The active ingredients have a broad spectrum effect; a series of RNA <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/molecules\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">molecules<\/a> support the plant\u2019s immune system in combating the virus. In laboratory experiments, 80 to 100% of the treated plants survived an infection with a high viral load, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/nar\/article\/doi\/10.1093\/nar\/gkaf136\/8074820\" target=\"_blank\">team reports<\/a> in Nucleic Acids Research.<\/p>\n<p>Their paper has been selected as a \u201cbreakthrough article\u201d by the journal.
