They detect pathogens and coordinate the <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/immune+response\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">immune response<\/a>. An international team led by Professor Barbara Schraml from LMU\u2019s Biomedical Center has now carried out an extensive study of a new type of dendritic cell and uncovered its important role in the body\u2019s immune response. The study is <a href=\"https:\/\/pnas.org\/doi\/10.1073\/pnas.2417308122\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>As the researchers demonstrate, dendritic cells that are marked by expression of the transcription factor ROR\u03b3t\u2014so-called ROR\u03b3t<sup>+<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/dendritic+cells\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">dendritic cells<\/a> (DCs)\u2014are found in many tissues.
