For instance, it can be twisted or stretched, impacting its overall structure and dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at the University of York recently explored how DNA behaves under torsion and tension using molecular dynamics simulations. These atomic-scale simulations yielded interesting new findings, which were <a href=\"https:\/\/link.aps.org\/doi\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.134.038403\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in a paper in Physical Review Letters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have always been interested in studying how DNA behaves inside the cell,\u201d Dr. Agnes Noy, senior author of the paper, told Phys.org. \u201cWe are used to thinking of DNA as a relaxed \u2018perfect\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/double+helix\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">double helix<\/a>, but the reality is far from that.
