I was hoping that <a href=\"https:\/\/selfawarepatterns.com\/2019\/10\/17\/a-competition-between-integration-and-workspace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the contest between<\/a> global workspace theory (GWT) and integrated information theory (IIT) would be announced sometime this year. Apparently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reed.edu\/reed-magazine\/articles\/2020\/brain-theory-battle.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I\u2019m going to have to wait awhile<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Pitts describes the intention of this competition as \u201cto kill one or both theories,\u201d but adds that while he is unsure that either will be definitively disproved, both theories have a good chance of being critically challenged. It\u2019s expected to take three years for the experiments to be conducted and the data to be analyzed before a verdict is reached.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Three years.
