Given Mars\u2019s lack of a global magnetic field, auroras here are instead diffused across the planet.<\/p>\n<p>However, sometimes this <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/solar+wind\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">solar wind<\/a> can \u201cdisappear\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/rare+events\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">rare events<\/a> when there is a gap in the solar wind path as the sun increases its <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/solar+activity\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">solar activity<\/a>.
