{"id":201319,"date":"2024-12-12T01:27:29","date_gmt":"2024-12-12T07:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2024\/12\/dna-sequencing-test-can-predict-prognosis-for-advanced-prostate-cancer-patients"},"modified":"2024-12-12T01:27:29","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T07:27:29","slug":"dna-sequencing-test-can-predict-prognosis-for-advanced-prostate-cancer-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2024\/12\/dna-sequencing-test-can-predict-prognosis-for-advanced-prostate-cancer-patients","title":{"rendered":"DNA sequencing test can predict prognosis for advanced prostate cancer patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/dna-sequencing-test-can-predict-prognosis-for-advanced-prostate-cancer-patients2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-024-54847-1?\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Nature Communications<\/i><\/a>, a new study led by the University of Minnesota Medical School and Duke University found that a DNA sequencing test for advanced prostate cancer patients can distinguish between patients with poor and favorable prognoses.<\/p>\n<p>The new blood-based <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/test\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">test <\/a>\u2014called AR-ctDETECT\u2014is designed to detect and analyze small fragments of tumor-derived DNA in the blood of certain <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/patients\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">patients<\/a> with advanced, <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/metastatic+prostate+cancer\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">metastatic prostate cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In this new study, the AR-ctDETECT test was used to analyze DNA from more than 770 <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/blood+samples\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">blood samples<\/a> from a phase 3 clinical trial of advanced prostate cancer patients. The test identified circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in 59% of patients with metastatic prostate cancer. Patients with detectable circulating tumor DNA had significantly worse overall survival compared to those without.
