Lithium-sulfur batteries are expected to cost less than half the price per kWh of current lithium-ion batteries, according to Stellantis.<\/p>\n<p>The batteries will be produced using waste materials and methane, with significantly lower CO2 emissions than any existing <a href=\"https:\/\/interestingengineering.com\/energy\/spin-quantum-battery-enables-energy-storage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">battery<\/a> technology. Zeta Energy battery technology is intended to be manufacturable within existing gigafactory technology and would leverage a short, entirely domestic supply chain in Europe or North America, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stellantis.com\/en\/news\/press-releases\/2024\/december\/stellantis-and-zeta-energy-announce-agreement-to-develop-lithium-sulfur-ev-batteries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ned Curic, Stellantis\u2019s Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, stated that the collaboration with Zeta Energy is another step in helping advance the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/interestingengineering.com\/transportation\/silicon-anodes-ev-batteries-race\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">electrification<\/a> strategy as they work to deliver clean, safe, and affordable vehicles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Batteries made from waste and methane offer lower CO2 emissions than current technologies.
