A topological time crystal\u2019s behavior is determined by overall structure, rather than just a single <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popularmechanics.com\/science\/a23640\/loophole-second-law-thermodynamics\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">atom<\/a> or interaction. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zmescience.com\/science\/news-science\/scientists-turn-a-quantum-computer-into-a-time-crystal-that-never-stops\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\"><em>ZME Science<\/em><\/a> describes, if normal time crystals are a strand in a spider\u2019s web, a topological time crystal is the <em>entire<\/em> web, and even the change of a single thread can affect the whole web. This \u201cnetwork\u201d of connection is a feature, not a flaw, as it makes the topological crystal more resilient to disturbances\u2014something quantum computers could <em>definitely<\/em> put to use.<\/p>\n<p>In this experiment, scientists essentially embedded this behavior into a quantum computer, creating fidelities that exceeded previous quantum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popularmechanics.com\/science\/a46555714\/this-superconducting-experiment-just-broke-physics\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">experiments<\/a>.
