Amazon wants to turn it into something that you can interact with in your living room, judging by a couple of the company\u2019s recently approved patents. The other, called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/pdfpiw.uspto.gov\/.piw?PageNum=0&docid=09204121&IDKey=7A739D063CD0&HomeUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpatft1.uspto.gov%2Fnetacgi%2Fnph-Parser%3FSect1%3DPTO1%2526Sect2%3DHITOFF%2526d%3DPALL%2526p%3D1%2526u%3D%25252Fnetahtml%25252FPTO%25252Fsrchnum.htm%2526r%3D1%2526f%3DG%2526l%3D50%2526s1%3D9%2C204%2C121.PN.%2526OS%3DPN%2F9%2C204%2C121%2526RS%3DPN%2F9%2C204%2C121\">reflector-based depth mapping<\/a>,\u201d would use a projector to transform your room into a kind of holodeck, mapping the depth of objects and bodies in a room.<\/p>\n<p>If all of this sounds familiar, it certainly is \u2014 Microsoft has a very similar concept called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2015\/05\/02\/microsoft-roomalive-toolkit\/\">RoomAlive<\/a>\u201d (originally \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2013\/09\/04\/illumiroom-not-expected-to-hit-retail-would-cost-thousands\/\">IllumiRoom<\/a>\u201d) that used a combination of projectors and Kinect depth sensors to turn your room into a virtual environment (below). In demos, Microsoft showed how the system could generate a virtual room that would enhance videos and even let you <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2014\/10\/05\/microsoft-roomalive-illumiroom\/\">interact with <\/a>\/shoot at game objects projected on your walls.
