It also opens new possibilities for the study of topological materials (i.e., systems with unique electronic properties originating from their electronic structure\u2019s topology).<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at Stony Brook University carried out a study aimed at better understanding the nonlinear response of planar altermagnets. Their paper, <a href=\"https:\/\/link.aps.org\/doi\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.133.106701\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in <i>Physical Review Letters<\/i>, reports the observation of a non-linear response in these materials derived from their quantum geometry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecently, <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2023-10-theoretical-illuminates-nonlinear-hall-effect.html\">two<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2023-08-antiferromagnets-memory.html\">experiments<\/a> have confirmed the predicted role of quantum geometry in the second-order response of the conventional PT-symmetric antiferromagnets,\u201d Sayed Ali Akbar Ghorashi, co-author of the paper, told Phys.org.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the quantum world, materials called \u201caltermagnets\u201d behave in unique ways that could pave the way for new technologies.
