{"id":195029,"date":"2024-08-23T05:36:56","date_gmt":"2024-08-23T10:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2024\/08\/publisher-retracts-350-papers-at-once"},"modified":"2024-08-23T05:36:56","modified_gmt":"2024-08-23T10:36:56","slug":"publisher-retracts-350-papers-at-once","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2024\/08\/publisher-retracts-350-papers-at-once","title":{"rendered":"Publisher retracts 350 papers at once"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/publisher-retracts-350-papers-at-once2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>IOP Publishing has retracted a total of 350 papers from two different 2021 conference proceedings because an \u201cinvestigation has uncovered evidence of systematic manipulation of the publication process and considerable citation manipulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The case is just the latest involving the discovery of papers full of gibberish \u2013 aka \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/retractionwatch.com\/2021\/07\/19\/tortured-phrases-lost-in-translation-sleuths-find-even-more-problems-at-journal-that-just-flagged-400-papers\/\">tortured phrases<\/a>\u201d \u2013 thanks to the <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2107.06751\">work<\/a> of Guillaume Cabanac, a computer scientist at the University of Toulouse, Cyril Labb\u00e9, of University Grenoble-Alpes and Alexander Magazinov, of Skoltech, in Moscow.
