With antibiotic resistance on the rise, there are very few new drugs in development. While studies in petri dishes have <a href=\"https:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2024\/06\/10\/ai-unearths-nearly-a-million-potential-antibiotics-to-take-out-superbugs\/\">zeroed in on potent candidates<\/a>, some of these also harm the body\u2019s cells, leading to severe side effects.<\/p>\n<p>What if there\u2019s a way to retain their bacteria-fighting ability, but with fewer side effects? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41551-024-01243-1\">This month<\/a>, researchers used AI to reengineer a toxic antibiotic.
