Gavin Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2022\/01\/26\/governor-newsom-outlines-historic-10-billion-zero-emission-vehicle-package-to-lead-the-worlds-transition-to-clean-energy-combat-climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched<\/a> a historic $10 billion zero-emission vehicle package to speed up the state\u2019s transition to greener technologies. It included $407 million for the California State Transportation Agency to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecooldown.com\/green-business\/hydrogen-powered-passenger-trains-california\/\">invest in clean tech<\/a> for its bus and rail infrastructure, and that money has already been put to good use.<\/p>\n<p>The Metrolink commuter rail in San Bernardino County will be moving from diesel-powered trains to new zero-emission hybrid ones that use hydrogen starting later this year, as LAist <a href=\"https:\/\/laist.com\/news\/transportation\/metrolink-new-zero-emission-train-san-bernardino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. This is only for a nine-mile stretch between San Bernardino and Redlands, but it will serve as a trial run for further expansion.<\/p>\n<p>As a tribute to its efficiency, the train has also been entered into the Guinness World Records database \u201cfor the longest distance of 1,741.7 miles achieved by a pilot hydrogen fuel cell electric multiple unit passenger train without refueling or recharging,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/stadlerrail.com\/en\/media\/article\/stadler%E2%80%99s-hydrogen-powered-train-flirt-h2-achieves-a-new-guinness-world-records-title\/1656\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stadler<\/a>, the Switzerland-based manufacturer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2022, California Gov.
