Now, a Binghamton University team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/news\/story\/5046\/self-powered-mechanical-bugs-could-run-on-ocean-bacteria-to-detect-environmental-data\">has developed<\/a> what may become one of the most simple and effective tools in its arsenal.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a new DARPA initiative is playing off of the idea of \u201cthe Internet of Things,\u201d the term used for the many non-computer devices connected to the Internet in some way, from refrigerators to fish tanks, and seeking to develop an \u201cOcean of Things.\u201d With many futurists\u2019 eyes on <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/with-concerns-over-space-warfare-on-the-rise-existing-international-law-may-be-the-answer\/\">space conflict and satellite warfare<\/a>, it\u2019s easy to forget that 71% of the Earth\u2019s surface is water, and naval conflict is still an element in geopolitics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new robot bug that can live in the ocean for 100 years and feed off of bacteria has made its debut as DARPA\u2019s latest surveillance tool.
