The oncologist sent her to the psychiatrist. The psychiatrist sent her back, saying that her symptoms were a result of the cancer treatment.<\/p>\n<p>This experience prompted my student and me to begin studying the problem of or \u2018chemofog\u2019 \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/chemo-brain\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20351060\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">terms<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S088539241000535X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">used<\/a> by people who have experienced memory loss or cognitive impairment following cancer treatment. Scientifically, it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s11910-012-0264-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">referred<\/a> to as \u2018cancer-related cognitive impairment\u2019 or \u2018chemotherapy-related cognitive dysfunction\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few years ago, one of my students came to me and spoke about her mother who was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
