So while they lack the functionality of traditional lithium-ion batteries \u2013 which are found in everything from smartphones to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/electric-cars\">electric cars<\/a> \u2013 they are a useful method of storing excess electricity generated from renewable energy sources like solar and wind.<\/p>\n<p>Since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/tech\/battery-concrete-renewable-energy-cement-home-b2385055.html\">first unveiling the technology last year<\/a>, the team has now built a working proof-of-concept <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/concrete\">concrete<\/a> battery, the BBC reported.
