To narrow the scope of the research, the study focused on media that was fact-checked by the service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.claimreviewproject.com\/\" class=\"\">ClaimReview<\/a>, ultimately examining a total of 135,838 fact-check-tagged pieces of online media.<\/p>\n<p>As the researchers write in the paper, AI is effective for producing realistic synthetic content quickly and easily, at \u201ca scale previously impossible without an enormous amount of manual labor.\u201d The availability of AI tools, per the researchers\u2019 findings, has led to <a href=\"https:\/\/corporatefinanceinstitute.com\/resources\/valuation\/hockey-stick-chart\/\" class=\"\">hockey stick-like growth<\/a> in AI-generated media online since 2023.
