Less than 12 months after introducing its <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/robotics\/sanctuary-ai-phoenix-humanoid-robot\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">6th-gen general-purpose humanoid<\/a>, Canada\u2019s Sanctuary AI has pulled back the curtains on the next iteration of Phoenix.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"display: block; margin: 0 auto; width: 100%; aspect-ratio: 4\/3; object-fit: contain;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-obkVgHjm1I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope;\n   picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Sanctuary has been working on a general-purpose humanoid robot for a few years now, with much of the development focus on building and training the upper torso to perform an array of tasks so we don\u2019t have to \u2013 including <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-obkVgHjm1I \" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">putting labels on boxes<\/a>, <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Vo3GH0s9OQY \" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">bagging groceries<\/a>, <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qetQ7nEE9oA \" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">moving packages<\/a>, <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bc7qSJ0h_P8 \" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">scanning products<\/a> and <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_v6PsG6C3B4 \" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">soldering<\/a>. However, <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/sanctuary.ai\/resources\/news\/honesty-in-technology-communications-marketing-and-storytelling\/ \" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">it seems<\/a> that most of the \u201c<i>Robots Doing Stuff<\/i>\u201d series of videos are actually showing the bots being teleoperated, which is how they\u2019re taught to perform tasks.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of months later, Sanctuary introduced a bipedal version called <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/robotics\/sanctuary-phoenix-autonomous-speed-hands\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">Phoenix<\/a>, together with an AI control system called Carbon designed to give the humanoid \u201chuman-like intelligence and enable it to do a wide range of work tasks.\u201d Some 11 months later, the seventh generation is ready for its time in the spotlight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The rapid progress of humanoid robot development is nothing short of astounding.
