The photo adds to the growing repertoire of Pluto images that are slowly being downloaded from the probe and released by the space agency. This one shows Pluto\u2019s crescent in full, spectacular detail, completing the partial crescent image that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2015\/9\/17\/9346171\/nasa-pluto-new-horizons-photo-mountains-backlit-atmosphere\">NASA released in mid-September<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The image was taken by New Horizons\u2019 Multi-spectral Visible Imaging Camera (MVIC), just 15 minutes after making its closest approach of Pluto on July 14th. It was taken from 11,000 miles away, when New Horizons looked back at Pluto toward the Sun. The photo shows the hazy layers of the dwarf planet\u2019s atmosphere, as well as the mountains on Pluto\u2019s surface that surround the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2015\/7\/17\/8975623\/nasa-new-horizons-pluto-flyby-mosaic-high-resolution\">icy plains of Sputnik Planum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2015\/10\/29\/9639330\/nasa-new-horizons-pluto-new-image-backlit\" target=\"_blank\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stunning, truly.
