Other animals (like salamanders and sharks) do it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zmescience.com\/science\/limb-regrowth-regeneration-possible-mammals-92643635\/\">why couldn\u2019t we<\/a>? Scientists have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zmescience.com\/future\/regrow-limbs-on-frogs-824737542\/\">tackled this question<\/a> because, obviously, humans don\u2019t naturally regrow limbs. But before we move on to regrowing limbs ourselves, we need to understand how other species do it.<\/p>\n<p>In a new study, researchers mapped the proteins that kick off limb creation in mice and chicks, finding that a cocktail of just three proteins performs the initial magic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople in the field have known a lot of the proteins critical for limb formation, but we found that there are proteins we missed,\u201d said study co-first author <a href=\"https:\/\/tabin.hms.harvard.edu\/?staff-member=changhee-lee\">ChangHee Lee<\/a>, research fellow in genetics in the lab of Cliff Tabin at Harvard Medical School.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For as long as superheroes have been imagined, there\u2019s been a superhero who can regrow limbs.
