Or a TV as thin as wallpaper that you can paste on a wall and hardly know it\u2019s there when you\u2019re not watching it.<\/p>\n<p>Photoswitches, which turn on and off in response to light, can be stitched together to replace the transistors used in <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/electronic+devices\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">electronic devices<\/a> that control the flow of the electric current.<\/p>\n<p>Commercial silicon transistors are brittle, nontransparent, and typically several microns thick, about the same thickness as a <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/red+blood+cell\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">red blood cell<\/a>. In contrast, photoswitches are one or two nanometers, about 1,000 times thinner.
