Athena Hollins, DFL-St. Paul, introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/bills\/text.php?number=HF2666&type=bill&version=0&session=ls93&session_year=2023&session_number=0\">HF2666<\/a> last year. The bill didn\u2019t receive a hearing amidst a historic legislative session where Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/alphanews.org\/dfl-trifecta-celebrates-at-capitol-as-walz-signs-38-percent-increase-in-state-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spent down<\/a> a $17.5 billion surplus and increased the state budget by more than 38 percent. But with <a href=\"https:\/\/alphanews.org\/new-forecast-shows-3-7-billion-budget-surplus-but-deficit-on-the-horizon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> earlier this month that the state has a projected $3.7 billion surplus, Hollins\u2019 bill received a hearing in the House Children and Families Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The bill passed through the committee on a voice vote. Its next stop is the House Human Services Finance Committee.
