{"id":183776,"date":"2024-02-27T05:24:34","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T11:24:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2024\/02\/former-twitter-engineers-are-building-particle-an-ai-powered-news-reader"},"modified":"2024-02-27T05:24:34","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T11:24:34","slug":"former-twitter-engineers-are-building-particle-an-ai-powered-news-reader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2024\/02\/former-twitter-engineers-are-building-particle-an-ai-powered-news-reader","title":{"rendered":"Former Twitter engineers are building Particle, an AI-powered news reader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/former-twitter-engineers-are-building-particle-an-ai-powered-news-reader3.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A team led by former Twitter engineers is rethinking how AI can be used to help people process news and information. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.particlenews.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Particle.news,<\/a> which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@pandemona\/post\/C3vVaUnPfOv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">entered into private beta<\/a> over the weekend, is a new startup offering a personalized, \u201cmulti-perspective\u201d news reading experience that not only leverages AI to summarize the news, but also aims to do so in a way that fairly compensates authors and publishers \u2014 or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@pandemona\/post\/C3vVbEevpkF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">so is the claim<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Particle hasn\u2019t yet shared its business model, it arrives at a time when there\u2019s a growing concern about the impact of AI on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/02\/01\/journalism-layoffs-00138517\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rapidly<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/01\/24\/business\/media\/media-industry-layoffs-decline.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shrinking<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/journalism-layoffs-business-messenger-83afe18984c2a1fc78e78184dddee17d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/katiecouric.com\/news\/politics-and-policy\/media-layoffs-2024-election-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ecosystem<\/a>. News that is summarized by AI could limit clicks to publishers\u2019 websites, which means their ability to monetize via advertising would also be reduced.<\/p>\n<p>The startup was founded last year by former Senior Director of Product Management at Twitter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/sarabeykpour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sara Beykpour<\/a>, who worked on products like Twitter Blue, Twitter Video, and conversations, and who spearheaded the <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2019\/03\/12\/a-first-look-at-twitters-new-prototype-app-twttr\/\">experimental app, twttr<\/a>. She had been at Twitter from 2015 through 2021, growing her position from software engineering to that of a senior director of product management.
