Could this concept be extended to the solar system as a whole? Might we want to take the Sun with us for a ride through the Milky Way galaxy?<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"display: block; margin: 0 auto; width: 100%; aspect-ratio: 4\/3; object-fit: contain;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FrAc-yORdAo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope;\n   picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Ecclesiastes 1:9 argued: \u201c<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes+1%3A9&version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">there is nothing new under the sun<\/a>.\u201d This gloomy perspective need not be true forever. With a few more centuries of science and technology, our civilization might develop a stellar engine that propels the Sun and allows us to travel with it through the Milky Way galaxy and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Fritz Zwicky, the astronomer who <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-019-02603-7\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">discovered dark matter<\/a> in 1933, wrote in his 1957 book <em class=\"\">Morphological Astronomy<\/em>: \u201cConsidering the Sun itself, many changes are imaginable. Most fascinating is perhaps the possibility of accelerating it to higher speeds, for instance 1,000 kilometers per second directed toward Alpha-Centauri in whose neighborhood our descendants then might arrive a thousand years hence.
