The cutting-edge nanopore technology used for this discovery was first developed to track the COVID-19 virus in Colombia, but is equally suited to identifying and reducing the spread of plant viruses.<\/p>\n<p>The findings, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-023-49735-5\">published<\/a> in <i>Scientific Reports<\/i>, will help plant pathologists in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand protect farmers\u2019 valued <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/cassava\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">cassava<\/a> harvest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Southeast Asia, most <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/smallholder+farmers\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">smallholder farmers<\/a> rely on cassava. Its starch-rich roots form the basis of an industry that supports millions of producers.
