Skinner\u2019s conditioning experiments wherein rats were given food for pushing a button inside a box. Known now as the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/science-nature\/bf-skinner-the-man-who-taught-pigeons-to-play-ping-pong-and-rats-to-pull-levers-5363946\/\" class=\"\">Skinner box<\/a>,\u201d this groundbreaking methodology developed in the 1930s has been used repeatedly in the past century not just to study behavior but also as an allegory \u2014 and has even served to describe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-020-19607-x\" class=\"\">humans\u2019 relationship to social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you give a rat a camera, it will apparently take selfies.
