We need them to power <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freethink.com\/hard-tech\/lithium-metal-batteries\">electric vehicles<\/a> and to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freethink.com\/energy\/renewable-energy-storage\">store energy from solar and wind<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, lithium-ion batteries are our best option for both of these uses, but they aren\u2019t ideal.
