This is what a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41550-023-02185-5\">recent study<\/a> published in <em>Nature Astronomy<\/em> hopes to figure out as a team of international researchers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/news-releases\/1031317\">investigated how the mineral apatite<\/a> found within a Moon meteorite provides greater insight into how the Moon\u2019s early crust from billions of years ago could have possessed higher amounts of water than scientists have previously hypothesized. This study holds the potential to not only help scientists better understand lunar history but also provide a gateway to unlocking lunar water for future astronaut missions, as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe discovery of apatite in the Moon\u2019s early crust for the first time is incredibly exciting \u2013 as we can finally start to piece together this unknown stage of lunar history,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/news.westernu.ca\/2024\/01\/early-lunar-crust-water-enriched\/\">said Dr. Tara Hayden<\/a>, who is a postdoctoral associate at Western University and lead author of the study. \u201cWe find the Moon\u2019s early crust was richer in water than we expected, and its volatile stable isotopes reveal an even more complex history than we knew before.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Does the Moon\u2019s crust have more water than previously thought?
