The research shows it makes a big difference where in that cellular broth, messenger RNA (mRNA) gets translated into proteins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know the old real estate saying, \u2018location, location, location.\u2019 It turns out it applies to how proteins get made inside of cells, too,\u201d says Dr. Mayr, a molecular and cell biologist at the Sloan Kettering Institute, a hub for basic and translational research within MSK. \u201cIf it\u2019s translated over here, you get twice as much <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/protein\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">protein<\/a> as if it\u2019s translated over there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This first-of-its-kind study highlights the degree to which the cytoplasm is \u201cbeautifully organized\u201d rather than being just a big jumble of stuff, she says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New findings published in Molecular Cell provide details about the hidden organization of the cytoplasm\u2014the soup of liquid, organelles, proteins, and other molecules inside a cell.
