The innovation promises to significantly expand <a href=\"https:\/\/interestingengineering.com\/science\/haarp-radio-signals-planetary-defense\" title=\"radio-frequency\" rel=\"dofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">radio-frequency<\/a> (RF) bandwidth and the ability to accurately control information flowing within the chip.<\/p>\n<p>The chip, built using cutting-edge silicon photonics technology, boasts integration capabilities for diverse systems on semiconductors less than 5 millimeters wide. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Ben Eggleton described the process as akin to assembling Lego building blocks, where new materials are integrated through advanced packaging of electronic \u2018chiplets\u2019, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sydney.edu.au\/news-opinion\/news\/2023\/12\/01\/photonic-semiconductor-fits-together-like-lego-opens-door-to-local-industry.html\" title=\"statement\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lego-style components in chips aren\u2019t new, however.
